What a surprise!! Here I was…in my mid-20s, a full-time job, studying part-time, a great group of friends, living in my own place, driving a new sporty car and wanting to give something back to the community in the form of voluntary work. On the surface, it appears like the perfect life, one which many people aspire to.

As I returned from my holiday in Fiji, who would have thought that my life would be turned upside down and inside out? I walked out of the airport and met a man…which led to me meeting the family at House of Restoration.

It was tough, it was confronting and I wasn’t particularly liked, yet I was determined to stay. A lady recently told me her thoughts when she first met me; “Who is this woman in high heels and a power suit? She is NOT going to last”!

Through many tears, heart-ache and much perseverance, I am still here 3 years later. Not only that…I have left my full-time job to work full-time at House of Restoration, taken a break from study, moved into one of the houses as a leader and sold my sporty car (and replaced it with a family car). With all that has happened, I have realised that I placed so much value on material things, yet was unfulfilled.

I no longer turn to books and literature to learn about people…I go to the source itself. Every person is different and you can only truly understand a person when you spend time with them, share with them, cry with them and encourage them!

For me, it has been an accelerated journey and I thank God for the lessons learnt and for every person who has played a part toward me being who I am today. I may no longer have my sporty car, I am sharing a room with someone else and no longer have my double bed but there is nothing more satisfying than knowing what you are called to do and being able to fulfil the destiny prepared for you.

Life is a choice…

Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

What are you going to choose?
